College football is back.\u00a0 I headed down to Birmingham, AL to shoot promos for Fox Sports South\u2019s SEC Gridiron LIVE show.\u00a0 I was shooting on the Canon 5D.<\/p>\n
I was pretty excited about this shoot when I first heard about it.\u00a0 The shoot location was out of this world awesome.\u00a0 We shot \u201cgladiator shots\u201d and interviews in an old iron foundry that use to make pig iron.\u00a0 From about 5pm to midnight we had full access to what is now a museum.<\/p>\n
We had a total of three \u201cstations\u201d setup for the SEC Gridiron LIVE talent to go through.\u00a0 The first setup was in a tunnel below the factory.\u00a0 We shot the talent down there being serious and goofing off.\u00a0 I took advantage of Canon\u2019s 70-200mm f2.8 II in this setup.\u00a0 I did a lot of cool \u201csnap-zoom\u201d shots.<\/p>\n The second setup was outside a warehouse area.\u00a0 This setup was primarily for group shots and interviews.\u00a0 I used two Arri 2K\u2019s and one Arri 650 to light the background.\u00a0 I really wanted to bring out the eeriness of the factory.\u00a0 I wanted to create layers of shadows.\u00a0 One of the ways I accomplished this was to send the light of one of the 2K\u2019s through a structural beam.\u00a0 This created a really cool \u201cX\u201d shadow in the background. On top of all of this we had men grinding metal in the background, which created a cool sparks effect.<\/p>\n The final setup was on some old railroad tracks.\u00a0 Structural beams that held up an old canopy surrounded this area.\u00a0 Hanging over the railroad tracks were floodlights spaced every ten feet.\u00a0 The main shot in this area was a group shot of the four talents walking towards the camera.\u00a0 I used the MYT slider to add some cool movement.\u00a0 The \u201chouse lights\u201d lit the beams.\u00a0 I used an Arri 2K to hit the factory in the distance.\u00a0 An Arri 300w and 650w, with Chimeras attached, were used to light the talent.\u00a0 I used one Arri 300w as a backlight.<\/p>\n Working with Fox Sports South in an old iron foundry like this was awesome.\u00a0 I felt like a little kid in a candy shot.\u00a0 There was an unlimited amount of possibilities in a location like this.\u00a0 Unfortunately we had until midnight to get what we needed so we were definitely hustling from setup to setup.\u00a0 In the end we got what we needed and left the foundry just a few minutes after midnight.\u00a0 Afterwards I met the producer in an Arby\u2019s parking lot.\u00a0 It was here that we transferred all the footage to his laptop.\u00a0 We double check to make sure he had everything and sure enough he did.\u00a0 We called it a night and went our separate ways.\u00a0 Can someone please put me on more cool shoots like this?!<\/p>\n College football is back.\u00a0 I headed down to Birmingham, AL to shoot promos for Fox Sports South\u2019s SEC Gridiron LIVE show.\u00a0 I was shooting on the Canon 5D.
