Disney World: where all dreams come true!
Bert’s Big Adventure is a non-profit organization that was started by Bert Weiss of WWWQ-FM in Atlanta, Georgia. Since 2002, they have provided a magical, all-expenses paid, five-day trip to Walt Disney World for children with chronic and terminal illnesses and their families. This year, CNN brought in our Atlanta DP, Nate Silverman, to capture the event and the families enjoying themselves.
Bert’s Big Adventure starts with a chartered flight for the children and her families, then when they get to Florida, they are provided hotel accommodations, passes to the park, transportation to and from the park, meal coupons, and even spending cash for the park! Due to financial strain, this experience is a once in a lifetime opportunity that most of these families would not get to be a part of without the foundation.
In addition to providing them with an experience at the park, the experience also provides the children additional charitable services such as the Reunion Adventures, which reunites the families year-round that went on the original trip together, and the Fairy Godparent Volunteer Program, which allows families to be visited on a daily basis when their child is admitted to the hospital. Each volunteer that will be visiting is provided with financial resources so that gifts, necessities and food will be provided on each visit.
Nate captured Bert interacting with the kids and them enjoying their day with his Sony F5 camera with a Fuji 18-55mm lens. He lit the subjects with Generay Light Panels. The shoot was very much run and gun and shot on the shoulder the entire day. Shooting run and gun means showing up to a shoot with as little equipment as possible and not having a set art direction or plan for shooting. The shoot went smoothly and Nate was able to capture great footage to showcase the event.
Thank you to CNN and Bert’s Big Adventure for letting our video camera crews come capture this wonderful event. We loved getting to capture the children having a great time and we look forward to working with you again in the future.
