Did you know Chicago’s one of the best food and drink cities in the world! Wait. What!? That’s why our Chicago DP, Matt Rossetti, teamed up for 6 days with Local Now to check out some of Chicago’s best spots! Let’s go…
Local Now is a new TV app that is designed to help users find the most interesting things to do in cities across the country. For our first several days with Local Now, we traveled throughout Chicago to find some of the hidden gems that Chicago has to offer.
“I’ve always been a fan of Chicago’s food and drink culture and many of the places we visited with Local Now are ones I’d never even heard of! It just goes to show how much this great city has to offer and thanks to the Local Now app you too have a great guide to find some of the best spots in the Windy City!” – Chicago DP, Matt Rossetti
Paired with some local talent familiar to each bar and restaurant, our crew went to 9 bars and restaurants in all and sampled their best food and drink offerings.
We shot everything on our C300 and also used the a7s on the new Ronin-S. This setup on the smaller Ronin-S allowed us amazing flexibility and mobility when we needed to move quickly to shoot B-Roll and capture dynamic scenes such as food coming out of the kitchen or beer being poured and served!
Some highlights from our week included Manny’s Deli which serves over 1,000lbs of brisket per day to their customers! Their sandwiches are piled so high with meat it’s a challenge just finish one. We checked out Drumbar a classic cocktail bar with a great rooftop in the summer. Band of Bohemia is the only Michelin-star brewpub in the world! Featuring an incredible menu paired with their own specially made seasonal beers. Troquet, a fancy River North brunch location with a French flare and awesome Mimosa specials every day of the week!
We got an exclusive look at one of Chicago’s hidden speakeasies called Bassment. An upscale British Invasion jazz lounge that is disguised to look like a cigar shop! Getting a behind the scenes look at some of Chicago’s finest establishments was a unique thrill, and our crews can’t wait to explore more with the Local Now App!
