Today is America Recycles Day!

America Recycles Day is today, November 15! It is a national holiday that is meant to encourage Americans and those we love around the world to protect the environment and create a more sustainable place to live. Sustainability is truly a core value and a part of Lakeshore’s mission. As part of our commitment to not own or operate a landfill, we try to encourage others to recycle as much as possible. This is why Lakeshore celebrates America Recycles Day every year for the month of November to help raise awareness of the importance of recycling.

Close to 90% of materials we throw away could potentially be recycled, repurposed or composted. That means that 90% of some sort of reusable material ends up in landfills, which are the largest source of human-caused methane. By diverting as much waste as possible from landfills, methane and other harmful gases are reduced and can help keep the Earth healthy.

Recycling, however, does more than just limit landfill usage. This practice saves energy and money, creates jobs and prevents pollution. By recycling, you are making a lasting impact on this environment for the better. Aside from the recycling that Lakeshore collects, we also divert over 40% of material that would normally end up in a landfill. This can be impacted by choice in Chicago dumpster to porta potty rental to even your town’s waste and recycling partner.

Finding ways to recycle more or reuse products multiple times is a great way to incorporate sustainable activities into your everyday life. If you are not sure what is or is not considered recyclable, we are always happy to help.

America Recycles Day is the perfect opportunity to reflect on your own recycling habits and see how you can make a difference, as well as celebrate the impact you may have already done.

Be sure to spread the word about America Recycles Day and recycling awareness. When more people learn how to recycle properly, the Earth benefits greatly. Encouraging others to live a more sustainable lifestyle also contributes to preserving the Earth. When more people start putting our planet first, our world becomes a better home for all; from people, to wildlife to the Earth itself.

Remember that just because today is America Recycles Day does not mean your sustainable practices should stop after today is over. Our planet needs us more than just one day of the year; these efforts must be ongoing all year long. Keep changing your habits to be more sustainable and help make the Earth a better place to live.

Happy America Recycles Day!
