Lakeshore Recycling Systems Awarded Three-Year Waste Removal, Recycling, E-Waste Contract at Eight Area City Colleges of Chicago

Award represents a significant expansion of the LRS-CCC relationship, from one site to now eight, spanning four colleges and four satellite-learning sites.

CHICAGO, May 12, 2015 — Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS), Chicagoland’s leading independent recycling and waste diversion services provider, today announced it has been awarded a three-year waste removal and recycling contract at eight area City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) sites. The award expands the LRS-CCC relationship from one site to now eight, four colleges and four satellite-learning sites.

In late 2013, LRS was awarded a five-year contract to provide waste removal and recycling services at more 600 schools in the Chicago Public Schools system; the nation’s third largest. CCC administrators attributed much of the LRS contract expansion to the company’s know-how in supporting larger universities and institutions of higher learning.

“We are proud and grateful for the opportunity to expand our services to now eight colleges within the CCC system,” said LRS Managing Partner Joshua Connell. “We remain committed, as we are with every customer, to not just reuse, recycle and divert more waste from landfills, but to actually deliver on the promise of greater sustainability through waste diversion and recycling.”

City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) is the largest community college system in Illinois and one of the largest in the nation, with 5,700 faculty and staff serving more than 115,000 students annually at seven colleges and six satellite sites.  Conveniently located across the city, the seven colleges include: Richard J. Daley College, Kennedy-King College, Malcolm X College, Olive-Harvey College, Harry S Truman College, Harold Washington College and Wilbur Wright College. City Colleges also oversees: the award-winning Washburne Culinary Institute, the French Pastry School, the Parrot Cage Restaurant at South Shore Cultural Center, the Sikia Banquet Facility, five Child Development Centers, the Center for Distance Learning, the Workforce Institute, the public broadcast station WYCC TV Channel 20 and radio station WKKC FM 89.3.

With primary operations in Chicago and its suburbs, LRS is a diversified waste services company providing commercial, residential, recycling and roll-off waste collection and diversion services to more than 6,000 commercial and municipal customers. LRS operates five Materials Recovery Facilities (MRFs) in Illinois, and is the recent recipient of Chicago Public Schools’ coveted Best Partnership Award for suppliers who demonstrate superior commitment to students and a strong track record of collaboration.

LRS processes more than 1.5 million tons of waste material annually and controls and processes more waste than any other private company in Illinois.
